Microsample preparation laboratory

Information on the service

The laboratory supports research as well as teaching activities. Within the laboratory it is possible to prepare microsamples to be subjected to X-ray diffraction analysis. Samples are ground to powders (under hood if required) to be loaded into glass-capillaries. Special preparations for HT analyses are possible by using alumina tubes and HT cements. Capillaries are mounted and aligned onto standard goniometer heads using a scope. A microanalytical scale may be used for preparing standard samples for creating calibration curves to be used for quantitative phase analyses. A phase-contrast microscope is available for performing the identification of asbestos on raw materials or filters.
