In the last issue of 2021 the interview to the President of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), Prof. Carlo Doglioni, to whom we asked about the most effective defensive strategies against natural hazards, about the contribution of INGV with respect to the themes proposed in the Glasgow Climate Change Conference and those present in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), about other possible collaborations of the Institute with the Geological Survey of Italy. Then two interesting articles about the use of artificial cavities and of the subsoil as a resource and about the thematic strategy for the protection of soils, always threatened by human activities. In the Events section, the summary of the participation of ISPRA to the 30th International Cartographic Conference, which took place in Florence from 14 to 18 December, and finally the Exhibition open until January 9, in the Appia Antica Archaeological Park, to celebrate the discovery of an important Napoleonic epigraph.
