Short Curriculum Vitae

Degree in Geological Sciences from the University of Naples Federico II in 1994, PhD in Earth Sciences since 1999, University Researcher in the disciplinary scientific sector D03B since May 1999 at the Department of Earth Sciences of Sapienza University of Rome, Associate professor since August 2008 and Full professor since January 2019 at the same department. Since 2004 he has been a member of the Institute of Environmental Geology and Geoengineering of the CNR. From 2010 to 2016 member of the PhD commission of the Department of Earth Sciences. From 2012 to 2014 member of the Evaluation Unit of the Faculty of Sciences. From 2014 to 2016 coordinator of the Master's Degree in Exploration Geology. From 2014 to 2017 secretary of the Italian Society of Mineralogy and Petrology. From 2016 to 2019 director of the University Museum of Earth Sciences. Since 2020 member of the Outreach Commission of the Faculty of Sciences. Since 2020 coordinator of the international commission for the nomenclature and classification of igneous rocks established by the IUGS (International Union of Geological Sciences). Since 2021 president of the Geological Sciences Teaching Area Council. Author of 107 scientific articles all published in internationally distributed journals, in collaboration with researchers of over 25 nationalities on all continents.

Research

Research Themes

  1. Cenozoic igneous activity in the circum-Mediterranean area, with particular interest in Italy, Spain, Iran, Libya, Germany and Turkey. Other areas of interest: Uganda, China, Brazil;
  2. Study of ultrabasic and ultracalcic natural systems;
  3. Study of ultramafic natural systems and the processes of metasomatism of the upper mantle;
  4. Origin of carbonatites;
  5. C Study of the lunar regolith.

  • 2012-2014. Member of the Evaluation Unit of the MMFFNN Faculty of Sciences.
  • 2014-2016. Coordinator of the Master's Degree in Exploration Geology.
  • 2016-2019. Director of the University Museum of Earth Sciences.

  • 2012-Present. Evaluator of ERC Projects (European Research Council, European Community; ~6 M€), ANR (Agence Nationale de la Recherche, France; ~500 k€), DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft; >400 k€), as well as various PRIN projects (Projects of national relevance, total ~1 M€).
  • 2020-Present. Coordinator of the international subcommission for the nomenclature and classification of igneous rocks established by the IUGS (International Union of Geological Sciences).
