Short Curriculum Vitae
Fabrizio Lirer, micropaleontologist and paleoclimatologist, graduated in 1994 in Geological Science at Earth Science Department of University Federico II of Naples. He started the scientific research (1995-1999) at Earth Science Department of Pisa University in stratigraphy applied to research oil exploration, and he had a PhD in Earth Science (1999-2002) at Earth Science Department of Parma University. From 2003 to 2021, he continued his research through a variety of positions at Istituto per l’Ambiente Marino Costiero (IAMC) and Istituto di Scienze Marine (ISMAR) of National Research Council (CNR) in Naples as Postdoc, Researcher and First Researcher. In 2021 He acquired the position of Associate Professor at Earth Science Department of Sapienza Rome University in Paleontology and Paleoecology (GEO/01). He was Councilor (2008-2011) of the Italian Association of Sedimentary Geology (GeoSed) and, Member (2015-2018) of the Presidency Council of the Italian Association for the Study of the Quaternary (AIQUA) and of the CNR Commission for coordination of Italian activities in the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP). From 2017 to 2021, he was a Member of the "Investigation Group" (GIN) of the National Research Council for the coordination of ship time requests for the N / O Urania, Minerva Uno and Dallaporta. Finally, since 2018, he has been a member of the "Paleoclimate Dynamics" Working Group of the Department of Earth System Sciences and Technologies for the Environment (DSSTA) of the CNR. In the international field, he has held various roles within the International Commission on Stratigraphy (ICS), in particular since 2005, he is Secretary of the Regional Committee on Mediterranean Neogene Stratigraphy (RCMNS), since 2013 he is Voting member of the Subcommission on Quaternary Stratigraphy (SQS) and since 2020 he is Voting member of the Subcommission on Neogene Stratigraphy (SNS). Since 2022 he has been associated with the Institute of Environmental Geology and Geoengineering (IGAG) of the CNR. He is the author of over 97 scientific publications in peer reviewed journals. He coordinated several oceanographic cruises on board the N / O: Urania and Minerva Uno of the CNR, and Astrea of ISPRA, in the Mediterranean aimed to study the paleoclimate dynamics over the last millennia. He has been responsible and coordinates numerous national and international research projects and, in particular, in 2017 he was the winner as "Associate Partner" of the ERC Consolidator Grant “TIMED” project. He is mainly involved to study the past climate changes from Ma to millennial scale, recorded in the marine fossil archives of the Mediterranean. Particularly, he is focused to the reconstruction of climatic fluctuations and temperatures (from secular to decadal scale), documented in marine records over the last two millennia. Recently, he also focused his research to understand the response of calcareous plankton to changes in CO2 perturbation documented over the past 23 million years in Mediterranean fossil archives.
